Elektroninen materialismi
(Electronic Materialism, 2023)
In December 2022, Association of Experimental Electronics held its 20th anniversary exhibition at Studio Là-bas in the basement of the Helsinki Cable Factory. In connection with the exhibition, Antti Ahonen (AEE) and Lauri Luhta (Studio Là-bas) organized a sound art discussion (in Finnish) "Electronic materialism", in which Jukka Hautamäki, Tommi Keränen and Timo Viialainen also participated. The subject was the Finnish scene of both building and performing “experimental electronics” at the turn of the 21st century – as a kind of reaction to the digitalization of media art and society as a whole – in the light of the participants' own experiences.
The documentary is a story that progresses according to the dramatic arc of the event, including some of the most poignant comments and the interesting recollections of the participants, linked to video footage of early 2000s audio art and sound performances at Studio Là-bas events.
The work is dedicated to Markus Renvall (1957–2023).
